This unique bronze shows Abigail bowing to David, but looking up in a not quite deferential pose.
Abigail saves the life of her husband, Nabal, and his men after he snubbed David’s request of hospitality. Hearing of David’s intent to bring four-hundred armed men to destroy Nabal, Abigail goes out to meet him with two-hundred loaves of bread, wine, roasted sheep, raisins and cakes. She encounters David and begs his forgiveness, offering her gifts to his men. She prophesies that David will be appointed ruler over all of Israel and that he will be rewarded for not having needlessly shed blood. David praises her for her discernment and for preventing him from avenging himself. After the death of Nabal, Abigail becomes one of David’s wives.
